JDC Company & Hip Hop Team 2019-20
JDC Company is a year-round pre-professional program designed for the dancer who wishes to study at a more intense level or/and for the dancer who would like to pursue dance in college and beyond. Each part of the program improves the dancer’s technique and performing skills and will also teach them time management, responsibility, strong work ethic, higher goal achievement and the importance of teamwork and unity. Participation in the Company Program is by invitation or audition only. Our new Jade Division offers dancers an opportunity to train and compete at a less-intense pace while discovering themselves in dance.
JDC Dancers are continuously evaluated at all ages and levels and may be selected or offered an audition at any point during their dance training at JDC.
Dancers are selected or offered an audition for Company based on the number of years they have been training in all genres of dance as well as their technical and performing skills within each genre.
Dancers interested in auditioning for the JDC Company who are not currently training at JDC must have prior training in Ballet and Jazz.
Company dancers must have a strong ability to learn and retain combinations and choreography at an accelerated pace in addition to applying and retaining corrections given by their instructors.
They must also display a high level of dedication to the art of dance within the classroom setting on a consistent and regular basis.
We find most dancers are not ready for the intensity of the full Company Program before age 8. The Jade Petite Division may be appropriate for dancers 6-8 who have already taken at least one year of Ballet & Jazz.
The commitment for the Company program varies by age & placement. Our Ruby, Topaz, Emerald and Sapphire Divisions average 10-16 hours per week of class and rehearsal time. Dancers in these Divisions take classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, Tumble, Technique, Conditioning, and Yoga. Friday and Saturday rehearsal hours are also part of the curriculum. Dancers in the Jade Division will train 4-8 hours per week in Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop.
The Company competes in 3-4 regional competitions during the year. Dancers in the Ruby, Topaz, Emerald, and Sapphire Divisions also compete in one national competition every other year and workshops/intensives in-house and outside of JDC.
All Divisions of Company also perform in the June recital and other scheduled company events throughout the year.
The majority of Company dancers are required to continue their dance training at JDC during summer months.
Dancers who are interested in the Company program are strongly recommended to enroll in all genres of dance along with Ballet and Jazz technique classes.
It is also required that these dancers study throughout the year, including summer classes and intensives at JDC for the majority of Company members.
