JDC Company Pre-Professional Program

The JDC Company is a year-round pre-professional program and is recommended and designed for the dancer who wishes to study dance at a more intense level. The Company is also recommended for the dancer who would like to pursue dance in college and beyond. The company program improves your dancer’s technique and performing skills and will also teach them time management, responsibility, strong work ethic, higher goal achievement and the importance of teamwork and unity.  Participation in the Company Program is by invitation or audition only.

JDC Dancers are continuously evaluated at all ages and levels and may be selected at any point during their dance training at JDC.  Dancers are selected based on the number of years they have been training in all genres of dance as well as their technical and performing skills within each genre. Company dancers must also have the strong ability to learn and retain combinations and choreography at an accelerated pace in addition to applying and retaining corrections given by their instructors. They must also display a high level of dedication to the art of dance within the classroom setting on a consistent and regular basis. We find most dancers are not ready for the intensity of the Company Program before age 9 .

The commitment for the company training program averages 15 hours per week and consists of classes in Ballet, Jazz, Modern/Lyrical, Tap, Hip Hop, Technique and Conditioning.  Friday and Saturday rehearsal hours are also part of the curriculum.  The company competes in 2-4 regional competitions during the year with one national competition every other year. They also participate in workshops/intensives in-house and outside of JDC. The Company also performs in the spring recital and other scheduled company events throughout the year. Company dancers are required to continue their dance training during summer months.

Dancers who are interested in the company program are strongly recommended to enroll in all genres of dance along with Ballet and Jazz technique classes . It is also highly recommended these dancers study throughout the year including summer classes at JDC.
